Veterans & RCMP: VAC Assessments and Counselling

I work with Veterans and current and former RCMP members, both in counselling and in psychological assessments for Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC).

VAC disability assessments

To apply for VAC disability benefits for a mental health condition, VAC needs a diagnosis and supporting information from a qualified professional. A psychological assessment gives VAC a clear, independent picture of how your symptoms affect your life and how they relate to your service.

How it works

  1. Contact me. We'll talk briefly about what you need and whether an assessment is the right step.

  2. Assessment sessions. Two longer appointments, in person in Leduc or by video. One is for standardized psychological testing. The other is an in-depth interview about your history, service, current symptoms, and day-to-day functioning.

  3. Report and forms. I write a report and complete the VAC paperwork required for your application.

  4. You submit to VAC. VAC makes the decision on your claim. I can't predict or guarantee the outcome, but I make sure the information they receive is thorough and accurate.

Reassessments

If your condition has changed, I also do reassessments for members already receiving VAC benefits.

Counselling

I use EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and somatic approaches, along with talk therapy, at a pace that works for you. Sessions are in person in Leduc, or by video or phone anywhere in Alberta.

Billing and coverage

I direct bill Medavie Blue Cross (for VAC-approved treatment) and Canada Life. Some assessments may also be billed directly to VAC. Ask when you contact me and I'll confirm what applies to you.

Fees

Please ask about current assessment fees and what your coverage includes.
